In order to eliminate the uncertainty that arises among those concerned with the subject, the need for brief information about the definition and working areas of Patent and Trademark Attorneyship has arisen.
Patent and Trademark Attorneyship; It is a service sector that is the profession of experts who are authorized to act on behalf of applicants (inventions, patents, utility models, designs, trade and service marks, geographical indications, traditional product names, integrated circuit topographies) on behalf of the applicants before the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office and who provide consultancy and representation on the protection of these rights.
In gaining the profession of patent and trademark attorney;
- Being a four-year college graduate,
- To be successful in the proficiency exam organized by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office every two years and,
- Being registered in the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office Patent and Trademark Attorneys Registry,
is required.
It is beneficial for attorneys to have technical and legal knowledge so that they can properly prepare and follow up applications related to industrial rights, and to be fluent in at least one foreign language valid for international correspondence in order to carry out international registration applications.
Patent and Trademark Attorneyship, which is among the most important professions in all developed countries, is of great importance in our country in terms of ensuring that the Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights System is established and implemented effectively by competent people in accordance with ethical principles.
Patent and Trademark Attorney Qualification Exams are held every two years (in every odd year) in two stages. The first stage “General Proficiency” exam is generally held in October or November in odd years. The second stage “Vocational Qualification” exam is generally held in January or February in even years.
